Commute Loop – 2022.04.26

Today was a ‘Test Your Patience’ day.

First happened along Koval about half way between Tropicana and Harmon. Up to this point things had been going great. Out of no where some lady decided to turn left in front of me into the International Villas Apartments. Really loved how she looked me dead in the eyes as she was completing her turn while I yelled telling her how great a person she is. The rest came along the ride home.

First, was as I was flying down Harmon and coming up on Eastern. Should have known better coming up on a line of cars who just got their green. Came up along side a car who flicked on their right signal just as I was about to pass them. Thank heaven I saw it early enough to jump on the brakes, locking up the rear, to get woahed up enough for them to make their turn before I broadsided them.

Then came the pickup truck sitting in the shoulder/bike lane at Harmon and Pecos. He was on Pecos just beyond Harmon. As I need to make my right I had to swing wide into traffic lanes where normally I just skirt right into the southbound bike lane. Couldn’t have moved a little further up the street to clear more of the intersection.

Finally a two-for-one special at Sunset Park. There was the truck that BLEW through the light at Pecos and Sunset while they were heading east on Sunset. I’ve seen this happen too many times to not wait and make sure everyone has stopped before crossing into the park. Then once I do I round the first round-a-bout and this minivan is wandering all over the place. In the travel lane, bike lane, wherever they wanted. As I came up along side they kept on coming over so I yelled to get out of the bike lane and see the driver throwing up their hands in what appeared to be a state of total panic. Ooof come on people it’s a park not that hard.

In much better news got to take the new Garmin 530 out for a spin. I mainly got it for the incident detection for my upcoming tour to give the wife a little more peace of mind. While it’s certainly cool I think it’s a lot more computer than I need. Will say that it seems to pair with my lights much better than the 130. No random disconnects/reconnects. Nice thing is I absolutely have no need for an upgrade from here. I have no desire to have a touch screen enabled computer so that rules out the 830 and 1030 series and I’m too vested in the Garmin ecosystem to change to another brand.

T-Minus 17 days until PCBR.
