Morning Commute – 2020.09.28

The weekend ends with a nice commute this morning. Must say those winds out of the north were on the chilly side. Made the long haul along Pecos a little challenging. I hope they last because I’d enjoy a tailwind home.

Spent much of the day yesterday on maintenance tasks on the bikes.

‘Shadow’, the Domane, needed a scrubbing to get all the sweat and sunscreen off the top tube. Also cleaned the factory chain lube off and applied some clean chain oil.

‘Ares’, my commuter, also needed a scrubbing from the downpour I rode through last week. Also treated to a chain clean and lube. I mentioned earlier that I upgraded the brakes from BB5s to BB7s, so I took the time to get those dialed in. My Assioma Uno was delivered on Saturday, so those went on. Getting the Shimano PD-M424 SPD pedals off was a nightmare. The left side came off without too much hassle, but the right side was awful. After breaking my only 15 mm wrench, I was forced to strap the left side crank arm to the frame and use a combination of PB Blaster, a new 15mm Craftsman wrench, and 3 foot long cheater pipe to get it off. That’s what I get for not using Loctite. New tires are due later this week, can’t wait.
