From Desert Solitaire

After finishing out My First Summer in the Sierra I figured I might as well read Edward Abbey’s Desert Solitaire. This quote is from “Cowboys and Indians Part II” and is something I need to remember when I’m out hiking and enjoying nature. Need to slow down and enjoy myself.

By taking off my shoes and digging my toes in the sand I made contact with that larger world – an exhilarating feeling which leads to equanimity.
