Morning Commute – 2021.08.10

Really need to learn to chill out and take it easy on these morning rides in. Two days in a row of record, or nearly record, setting pace. I get rolling and the desire to push comes over me. Maybe tomorrow.

Ran into my boy Kenny today who I haven’t seen out there in quite some time. Stopped to have a little chat along Sandy Ridge after someone nearly pulled out into him. Nice to see him back on the bike after his spill up in Brianhead.

Impatient drivers were out in force today. First there was Kenny’s near miss, and I had a close one along Pecos right at the 215 interchange. Was FLYING near 40 MPH when someone transitioning from WB 215 to NB Pecos decided they didn’t want to wait for me to clear and pulled out. Got my attention enough to cause me to scrub off 7 MPH to plan evasive action. Thankfully they got their butt in gear, gunned it, and swung across all three lanes of traffic to make their left turn into Pecos Plaza.

Enough of the bad, time for the good!

Caught a small tow from a RTC bus just north of Robindale. Sadly it didn’t last long as it had to stop at the railroad crossing just before Warm Springs. Did make for crossing traffic to make my left a little more difficult as traffic swung around the bus to avoid stopping behind it. Not a big deal at all really, more a minor annoyance.

The other highlight was racing a roadrunner down Maule Ave before entering into Sunset Park. I had seen a roadrunner yesterday on the way home and can only assume it was the same one. It was racing along at a good clip of 15 MPH or so. Had a chuckle saying “Meep meep” before it peeled off to the right to dart into the bushes.
