I don’t trust children. They’re here to replace us.

I can hear you now, “What in the world, you’re riding on a Tuesday night again?!” Well, I certainly hope so. I was riding with the Tuesday night crowd near the end of summer ’24. Once the fall semester started I had to put that behind me because I had class Tuesday evenings. I just couldn’t attend class and then make it to Pedal & Pour for the ride. Despite that, I did get out of class early enough to join the gang at the Overlook with refreshments and PTs for a post-ride meal.

With the new year comes a new semester and for spring my only in person class meets on Wednesday evenings. Moving forward the goal is to commute to work on Mondays and Fridays and join the AV group rides on Tuesdays and Saturdays. I’m kinda bummed to be losing out on a commute day, but simultaneously thrilled to be getting back Tuesday nights.

Tonight’s ride was certainly a chilly one. As is normally the case, things started chilly, but once we started rolling and putting in some work I warmed ok. I wouldn’t say I was ever really warm, but I wasn’t necessarily cold either. Overall, no real complaints about the clothing I went out with. Something for me to keep in mind for next time.

Being that this was my first time on this route, and despite having the course on my computer, I took things relatively easy. I was more than happy to follow along, but not afraid to take the lead on a couple stretches I knew for certain.

The first half of the ride went relatively well. At the top of Sky Vista I came upon Stuart pulled off to the side of the road. It seems that he’d hit a rock and earned himself a pinch flat for his troubles. While we worked the issue we encouraged Lelis and Ferdie to go on ahead and we’d see them back at PTs.

Later as we were flying along Red Rock Ranch Rd, our group spotted Lelis and Ferdie stopped along the side of the road. My first thoughts on seeing them was that one, or both, of them were hurt. After stopping and checking in we learned that both of Ferdie’s contacts had come out and, thankfully, had become stuck to the inside of his glasses. The two of them were trying to get Ferdie’s contacts put back in. Lelis was holding her phone to act as a mirror while Ferdie was fussing with his contacts. Eventually, Ferdie would use Stuart’s cycling mirror to get the lenses in, and some of Matt’s handy contact solution.

Overall I had a great ride out with everyone. I really have missed this ride and actually earning the post-ride meal. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to join in on all the Tuesdays moving forward, but if push comes to shove I’ll dial back if school or work needs additional time.
