Something a little different today. I received a text message Sunday afternoon from Moose asking if he could borrow Elmo, my Toyota Tacoma, to haul some old stuff out of his garage. After talking about it on the phone, I thought it would be easiest for him to use Elmo today since he already has the day off, and I could just drop the key off to him along my ride to work. I also figured it’d be just as easy to swing by along the way home to pick it back up. I drew up a quick route, uploaded it to my Garmin, and went out the door.
I sent Moose a text when I left work so he’d know about when to expect me. Then somewhere along Bermuda my computer alerted me that Moose was added to the ride. A short time later just past Cactus I was surprised to have him join me for the remainder of the ride home.
Along Volunteer, east of Via Inspirada, we spotted the SpaceX launch in the southern sky. We stopped for a brief moment to allow him to snap a picture and call his family to tell them to take a look. As we continued east, I changed up my original route. I originally had planned on riding up Hampton, but chose to work my way south along Sebring Hills to Olivia Heights instead and avoiding that short section along Sun City Anthem.
Overall, a great day of riding. A little cool at the start, but the evening ride home was perfect with the kit I had on. Having someone to chit chat with for the second half of the ride home was a pleasant change of pace. I also enjoyed the quieter roads for the ride home. They may not be very good for attempting interval training, with stop signs and lights, but for a recovery day they were sublime.
