An interesting change of route for today’s rides. As I mentioned in a previous post, during Friday’s Scrambled breakfast I ended up working a filling loose in one of my teeth. Today was the earliest they could work me in. I decided last night I’d try to stick with my regular routine of riding from Pedal & Pour but instead of going straight to work I would go to the dentist first before work. Then after work I’d ride back to Pedal & Pour for the LVAV Tuesday Night ride.
The ride over to the dentist’s office went really well. While riding south along Fort Apache I spotted a group heading the opposite direction and then heard Derrick call out my name. From there the ride was pretty quick. The tailwind and descent along Cactus certainly didn’t hurt the ole speed average that’s for sure. I was surprised when I arrived at the dentist’s office over an hour early. The perfect morning temperatures made sitting around outside on a staircase made this a non-issue.
After the dentist dropped in a quick new filling, it was time to ride off to work. I’d routed things last night and decided to give the new UPRR extension from Cornerstone to Pecos a rip. It worked out great and it was a pleasure to go so far without having to deal with traffic. As I reached Pecos I was surprised to find an extensive police presence. I jumped off the curb and into traffic to find three HPD officers parked behind a few vehicles and emergency responders. It must have been some kind of accident, but it was difficult to tell for certain with the vehicles showing so little damage. Thankfully the rest of the ride to the office was uneventful.
Leaving campus and waiting at the light at the intersection of Harmon and University Center I was pleasantly surprised when Professor Byran rolled up. We started chatting and would eventually ride all the way to the intersection of Hacienda and Durango together talking the entire time. I did get to show him the way I ride back behind the Luxor versus going all the way south to Hacienda and LVB. He was kinda surprised at the sneaky back way and it sounds like it may be something he uses in the future.
The Adobo ride was a toughy. I’m certainly still lugging around some fatigue from this past weekend’s double century. I was perfectly content to sit on the back when I needed to while taking a few pulls here and there to ensure I was getting some efforts logged. Overall pretty happy with how the night ride went all things considered.
