Chilly one out there this morning, but nothing I couldn’t handle. Just had to bundle up with everything I’ve got. Worked great.
Ride in was uneventful until the last mile. Really pushed to cross both Paradise and University Center on one light. I made it, but just east of University Center Harmon was completely destroyed down to the bare earth. I screamed to myself, “Ooohhhh s**t!!”. It was hilarious. A couple good shocks but none the worse for wear.
Ride home was nice. Was pleasantly surprised when I made it to Maule in Sunset Park. Need to start with some backstory.
All year I had no problem navigating the intersection of Maule and Mira Vista in Sunset Park. At some point some new concrete k-rails were placed to stop vehicles from driving down Maule. They were moved a few times, but between Thanksgiving and Christmas they’d been moved in such a way that you could no longer easily pass through by bike. You had to either stop to jump on a curb or lift your bike up and over. Not at all happy with this change, I did some searching and found an email addresses within Clark County Parks that looked promising. I explained the situation and included details about my commute and a lack of alternate routes. I was surprised when I received a response less than 30 minutes later. Double surprised when a couple days later I received an email from the Sunset Park Supervisor stating they’d moved the k-rails to make passing through via bike easier.
I lay all this out because today was my first time through that area since this email chain. I was somewhat nervous thinking I’d find nothing changed and the emails I’d received only being lip service. When it came time to hang my left on Maule there was a nice 4ft wide opening to allow me to pass through without any issue. I was so excited that I was hooting and hollering out loud. So cool to have expressed a concern about something and to actually have been listened to.
