Commute Loop – 2023.09.14

A tough day at work book-ended with nice rides. Couldn’t really ask for anything better than that.

I gave Flamingo to Mountain Vista a try for the ride home this afternoon, continuing the explore ideas for adding miles to my commutes. Hard to judge this one. Very stop and go with the lights all along Flamingo which had me frustrated by Eastern. Once I was onto Mountain Vista things were a little better, but the road between Flamingo and Tropicana wasn’t the best. Past Tropicana has a decent bike lane but, similar to the Flamingo-Tropicana stretch, there is still a ton of debris from the flooding a couple weeks back. Seeing all this crap in the gutters makes me wonder if it’ll ever get cleaned up.

Mountain Vista really opens up nicely after Russell, but it gets a little tight after Sunset. I only had to persevere until Valle Verde. One option would be to take a left onto Sunset Way to work my way over to Valle Verde, but I’m not convinced it’s necessary. The short straight down Sunset was totally doable.

After the turn onto Valle Verde it was smooth sailing until Horizon Ridge. I really enjoyed the smooth pavement and uninterrupted riding along Valley Verde. Turning onto Horizon Ridge snapped me back into reality with its awful surface.

Once I was onto Green Valley Pkwy it was again smooth sailing all the way back to the house.

Great riding today. Looking forward to the breakfast commute tomorrow.
