Alternative title: Dave’s PR Quest
Today was the first Tuesday I’ve been able to stitch together a commute and Adobo Velo Tuesday night ride, and I’m really happy with the results. The route from Pedal & Pour to work and back is solid. The most difficult portion is in the evenings riding from campus to Hacienda and Arville. It is there that the Hacienda bike lanes and new asphalt start making the rush hour traffic more manageable. Lastly, the stretch of Hacienda between Rainbow and Durango is great for an interval session. A perfect way to get some heat into the legs right before the real work starts.
The evening session started out with a bang when Dave Burns decided he wanted all the PRs on each and every north/south segment along the route. With strong winds out of the SSW I can’t really say that I blame him. We pushed hard, but that also meant dropping both Boots and Moose. We stopped several times along the way to not only regroup but also catch our breath. All the fun and games ended once we made the turn onto Lake Mead.
Just when you thought the climb up Lake Mead couldn’t get any more difficult, mother nature decides to blast you in the face with wind. Riding south along Sky Vista was a chore, and it wasn’t until we came back to Desert Foothills that we received some cover from the wind. The ride back to PTs from Desert Foothills and Desert Sunrise was a group effort, especially after making the turn onto Hualapai. From there to PTs was straight into a headwind and Dave, Moose, and I all took turns up front to spread the load.
A solid day and night of riding. Still in love with the gorgeous temperatures we’ve been blessed with for this the first week of February. Sad to see that temperatures are going to be returning to normal over the next few days which will mean getting out the leg and arm warmers again. Spring can’t get here quickly enough.
