It’s one thing to battle one’s own demons to get out and ride to work with the colder temperatures, it’s another to have to fight your bike’s as well. While loading this morning’s water bottles I gave Shadow’s tires a squeeze and found the rear completely flat. I could have easily just left it at that, got dressed, and drove in to work. Instead I brought Shadow inside, flipped him over, and got to work. It only took about 15 minutes to find the ridiculously small thorn, which kicked off all this activity, and install a new tube.
The ride to work went pretty well. I’m really happy with my clothing choices. I left the full winter tights at home and went with leg warmers instead. Combined with a thermal jersey and vest it was a solid choice. It worked out even better for the ride home when I was able to stash the leg warmers into my backpack instead of wearing them. Kinda crazy considering how cold the temperatures were just a few days ago. Don’t get me wrong though I’m certainly not complaining.
Testing out the demo saddle continues. I’m fairly confident I’ll go with the narrower option for the permanent replacement. Going to keep rolling with the demo for a few more days before pulling the trigger on a replacement. I did however pull the trigger on a new Giro helmet this afternoon. Nothing wrong with the current helmet other than it’s now nearly three years old so probably about time.
Giro does need to get its act together on its website. They offer a promotional 15% off your first order for signing up for their newsletter. Yesterday, I signed up with my Gmail account, confirmed the subscription, but never received a code. Then today I signed up with my Hotmail account, confirmed the subscription, and actually received a code! I went back to Giro and signed in with my Gmail account and the site said my coupon code couldn’t be used. I thought the code may be tied to the email address so I created a new account using the Hotmail account and the coupon code failed again. At that point I just gave up and put in the damned order. I hope it’ll arrive before the weekend.
