If this works, it’ll keep us from getting’ caught. If it doesn’t, it’ll keep us from gettin’ old. (Adobo Velo)

Got a text from my boy Mark yesterday morning asking if I wanted to ride over to Mountains Edge Regional Park to pick up a group ride with the Adobo Velo Las Vegas chapter. He figured a 50 mile ride with our ride over and back adding an additional 25 miles.

Rolled out from the house just shy of 5:00 a.m. and met up with Mark at Anthem Hills Park 15 minutes later. From there we had a nice leisurely ride along Cactus. Got passed up by a group of four out for a fast spin, and even at our slow pace we still arrived early for the 6:30 start.

What was supposed to be a 6:30 start turned into a 7:00 start waiting for a couple riders. Thankfully the additional 30 minutes didn’t hurt too much later with the warmer temps.

Once underway we rode over into Summerlin and kept a nice steady pace. Couple folks had fun with a few attacks here and there but it was mostly civil. Stopped at the Charleston Terrible’s before heading over to Villa Ridge, and boy was that an intense one. Just an absolutely brutal 3.25 mile 4% climb. Oof.

There was a little more climbing before we started the mostly downhill return back to Mountains Edge. Got a little cheeky after the turn off Tropicana and timed an attack right before the downhill really started. Then the bike gods smiled down and put a beautiful delivery truck in front of me. I was able to get a decent tow cruising almost 40 MPH while pushing 0 watts. Glorious! Put I paid for it when we got to Sky Post Road when I had to do a full circle at the round-a-bout when I needed to go straight. This burned up all the lead out I had, but it was hella fun while it lasted.

After that it was a pretty chill ride back. Hooked up with Stan, Chuck, and Mark to ride back. Stan peeled off to take Starr, while the rest of us made our way into Inspirada. Chuck wanted to add on some more miles/time so he made the right into Inspirada. Mark and I did a Hampton climb before parting ways at Anthem Pkwy.

Overall great ride today with some big miles. I feel I did a great job of keeping myself hydrated and fueled. Had a big bonk a couple weeks back that Mark had to see and he’d tell you it wasn’t pretty.
