Scrutiny has only one “i”

Great day for a ride. Changed up the route a little, on both the ride out and back, to enjoy some new roads.

The gnats were AWFUL today. They started near Santa Fe dam and again once I was onto the Rio Hondo and continued on the LA River. There were just CLOUDS of them hanging all over the place. You’d see them coming and juke left to only find yourself needing to juke right to avoid the NEXT cloud. Unreal. I really need to bring a neck gaiter to bring up over my nose and mouth for this route. I saw several riders with either a gaiter or mask on. Thankfully things were much improved on the return trip up the San Gabriel, but then again it was pretty dry.

Once I got to my in-laws I went straight out back, without going through the house, and rinsed off my legs. They were disgusting. Also did my best to do a quick rinse down. The cold water was refreshing and breathed some life into me. Afterwards I grabbed a bite to eat and then grabbed a quick and short hour long nap.

Overall I felt ok, but definitely not at my best despite being fast. I attribute the speed to tailwinds more than my legs, especially on the way back. I’ll take it considering yesterday I had two shots in the morning and I hit the gym before I left campus. The arm was ridiculously sore, moreso than I’ve ever had in the past, while the legs just felt tired.
